We Fix $6 Haircuts!

The story goes (much like the commerical) that a barber has a competitor open a barber shop across the street advertising $6 haircuts. The barber thinks that his family business will soon be sunk simply because he cannot compete with $6 haircuts. He soon realizes though $6 haircuts will probably need to be fixed! He then places a sign in front of his shop stating just that..."We Fix $6 Haircuts!". It wasn't long before the competitor was out of business due to the fact that no one can offer $6 haircuts and stay in business for long. The barber's clients all came back and within several months his business was up over 10% what it was before his competitor moved in.

Due to the current economic situation that we find ourselves in, a lot of people are getting "$6 Haircuts" for their remodeling and new home construction projects. Some unscrupulous and/or desperate contractors are trying to contract jobs for at or below cost. The reasons for this vary, but the results are always the same.

Many homeowners are left with shoddy work and large bills for the cost of repairing or completing the sub par or incomplete work. A national television network even has a new show about such contractors and the destruction that they leave in their wake. Click here to read an article from the star of the show on things to consider when hiring a contractor. Or you can click here to watch the latest episodes.

The bottom line is that in construction, you get what you pay for! While most contractors are certainly knowledgeable, honest, & hardworking, you still have to beware of the ones that aren't. So please be careful when selecting a contractor and keep a few of these things in mind:

-Check references

-Get 3 bids

-Check to see if your contractor is a member of his local Home Builders Association. HBA's require their members to adhere to a strict code of conduct

-Go with your gut; if it feels right, it probably is. If it seems too good to be true, it almost certainly will be.

Whether you got a $6 haircut, because you hired the wrong company or even if you tried to do it yourself; don't worry, we can fix it!
